Visitor facilities

Provision of the Federal State Institution “Altaiskiy Reserve” prohibits staying in the territory of the Reserve without a special entry permit. Among activities allowed in the territory of the Reserve are research and environmental education. Six environmental trails of the Reserve familiarizing visitors with ethno-ecological peculiarities of its territory and unveiling the secrets of its divine beauty are open to visitors. The basic visitor categories are: schoolchildren, students, volunteers, researchers, ecotourists.

To get all necessary information and an entry permit, visitors are required to contact the Reserve’s head office 2-3 months before the intended visit.

Geographical location of the Reserve:
The Altaiskiy State Nature Reserve is located in the north-west of the Altai Republic and covers the territories of the Turochakskiy and Ulaganskiy Districts. The central manor of the Reserve is situated in Yailu settlement, and the Reserve’s head office – in Gorno-Altaisk, the capital of the Altai Republic.

Ground traffic:
• Visitors can get to Artybash settlement located on the shores of Lake Teletskoye by car or by a regular bus and then use water traffic.
• Visitors can also get to Yailu settlement, the central manor of the Altaiskiy Reserve, by car.

Water (Lake) traffic – in summer:
• Motor vessels and motor boats are available all summer long. Visitors can take advantage of various water traffic opportunities offered by local entrepreneurs.
• The Reserve’s motor vessel can be used only by prior arrangement (a request should be submitted not later than 2 months before the summer season).

Accommodation:

Iogach and Artybash settlements, located not far from the Altaiskiy Reserve along the shores of Lake Teletskoye, offer accommodation in tourist camps, hostels and “green houses”. Artybash settlement hosts the Information center of the Altaiskiy Reserve providing all required information on accommodation, excursions and other tourist services. Besides a guest house in Yailu settlement, accommodation is also possible in local residents’ “green houses” by prior arrangement. There are no recreation facilities in cordons.

Communication and electricity:

Electricity, cell communication and Internet are available in Artybash and Iogach settlements. Electricity is supplied in Yailu settlement twice a day: from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. There are handheld transceivers in all Reserve’s cordons, with fixed-time radio communication sessions held several times each day.

Medical service:

The Reserve provides helicopter medical rescue and evacuation. The nearest hospital is situated in Iogach settlement, and the nearest feldsher’s station – in Yailu settlement.

The Reserve’s environmental trails:




 Any activity contrary to the mission of the Altaiskiy Reserve is prohibited in its territory, namely:

• unauthorized entry and stay of persons and transport within the borders of the Reserve;
• logging, procurement of soft resins, timber saps, medicinal herbs and technical raw materials, picking wild berries, wildings, flowers and mushrooms;
• haying, cattle grazing, installing bee hives and bee gardens;
• driving cattle through the territory of the Reserve;
• game, amateur and sport fishing and hunting;
• anthropogenic pollution of the territory caused by household/domestic and industrial waste/garbage;
• construction of buildings, roads and highways, power transmission lines and other communication lines;
• acclimatization-oriented introduction of organisms;
• mining and soil disturbance;
• helicopter and plane flights at an altitude of less than 2,000 meters above the territory of the Reserve without prior  approval and permission of the Reserve’s administration;
• destroying and damaging information boards and signs of the Reserve;
• any other activity threatening natural processes, complexes and sites of the Reserve.
